A number of
you are asking a very simple and
insightful question: What is Why Catholic? Hopefully, I can
provide you an answer that will stimulate your interest in this
initiative. So, here we go.
Why Catholic?
is
a pastoral approach to
evangelization and adult faith formation. Now I realize that my
definition sounds rather formal and academic, so let me share the
pastoral reason behind the implementation of the process. In five
(5) short years the Diocese of Nashville will celebrate its 175th
anniversary. In response to that historic benchmark Bishop Choby has
asked us to prepare ourselves spiritually to celebrate that joyous
occasion.
In searching for a
faith-based vehicle to help us on that journey, the bishop has asked us
to use source material that has been developed by Renew International
to aid us in preparing for the anniversary celebration. Why Catholic?
Journey through the Catechism is a four (4) year investigation of the
major sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church along with
supporting Scriptural text.
Why Catholic? is a
structured investigation of the aforementioned material. That
exploration will occur in small groups and will allow us to pray over,
reflect upon and share within our groups our thoughts. Parents with
children preparing for sacraments and families seeking to deepen their
faith will be enriched. Hopefully this examination will assist us
as adults to better understand our faith and share that faith with the
people that we come in contact in our daily lives.
So, there you have
it. The journey lies before us. Happy trails.

Parish Nurse Program As many of you know we began the blood
pressure clinic last year. We want to expand the services to our parish
by starting the Parish Nurse Program. Parish Nursing is a way of
rediscovering the essential wholeness of the Gospel as Jesus proclaimed
it . . . . body and Soul.
Our Main focus will be promoting health and wholeness. We are
volunteers and members of the church's ministry team, working together
with the parish to promote the holistic message of the Gospel in our
comnunity. We are in need of RN's to volunteer their time to help with
our health ministry.
We will offer health screenings, health counseling, prevention of
disease programs and visitation of our sick. The parish nurse does not
provide direct patient care, such as dressing changes, medication
administration or personal care. Any and all information obtained will
be confidential and under lock and key.
The parish nurse will be housed in the Ashley House where there is
privacy. The blood pressure chechs will be done there from now on once
per month. We plan to begin our health ministry April 9th, 2007. Our
hours will be flexible according to our work schedules. These hours
will be annouced in the church bulletin on a monthly basis.
